Hogmanay on TV/radio

Erasure will headline the Concert In The Gardens at Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations on New Years Eve, as you know, but if you aren't going to Edinburgh, here are a few suggestions for possibly catching a song or two on TV and radio.

ITV1 in the Grampian and Scottish regions will be broadcasting a show on New Year's Eve between 11.10pm and 12.15am called "A Capital New Year". Erasure are mentioned as being one of the bands included in this programme. If you aren't in Scotland, but you have Sky Digital, you can tune in Grampian or Scottish ITV1 by doing the following:-

From your remote control choose SERVICES, then System Set-up, then Add Channels

Frequency (GHz) - 10.906

Polarisation - V

System Rate (Mbaud) - 22.0

FEC - 5/6

Find Channels

Then pick Grampian or Scottish whichever you prefer

Press the yellow button to select the channel

To access the channel when the time comes go to SERVICES, then Other Channels.

Thank you to Kelly for all that information!.

BBC1 will also be live at Hogmanay at 11.50pm. Although the programme will be going to Edinburgh at midnight, they will be broadcasting from Glasgow, so it doesn't look as likely Erasure will be featured. But maybe tune in anyway, just in case!.

Finally, Yorkshire radio station 'Real Radio' will be broadcasting live from Hogmanay and they have said Erasure will perform. You can listen online at, on 106-108 fm or via Sky channel 896. The programme's on between 10pm-1am. Thank you to Mark Brierley for informing me about it.

If I find out any more, I'll put it here.

EIS Forum - A Message

With the EIS forum recently passing its 1,000th member I asked Vince if he wouldn't mind coming up with a quickie message I could pass on to you guys on his behalf as a thank you - well he rose to the challenge!

To see the message log into the forum here:

And enter the 'Erasure Discussion' area. If you haven't already registered then select the 'register' link on the navigation bar.

A year in review...

I know I've mentioned this in past updates before, but every so often I just have to shout out randomly - "What a year it's been!!!" After a while this began to upset my colleagues in the office so now I just randomly type it in emails and mime the shouting parts to myself.

Anyway, I thought I'd share a trip down memory lane and recap just a few of the highlights of the past 12 months.

Website Update - Past Interviews

A recent request on the EIS forum was that they would like to see some of the old interviews that were published on the EIS website in the past to be made available - well your wish is my command!

By using the drop down menu on the right, a selection of old interviews can be accessed on this page:

More will be added soon (as well as some new interviews of course) so watch this space!

Website Update - New Feature

Another series of suggestions on the EIS forum was regarding some sort of fan profile page. I thought that was quite a good idea - but I would like to expand on it a little. Rather than just a list of facts about someone, I would like to publish your favourite Erasure related experience. It could be a favourite concert, album, how you met someone, best karaoke performance(!) - anything that has meant something and you don't mind being published for other Erasure fans to read.

So if you guys are up for it - send an email with:

- Your full name

- Age

- Country of residence

- A photo (optional of course!)

- And a description of your Erasure related experience (the length is purely up to you) to this address *only*:

Until next week!

Hogmanay Competition - Deadline Extension

Last week I set the question:

Q: What does the Gaelic phrase "oge maiden" mean?

What I didn't release was that there were various spellings of the phrase, including: "oge maidne", "oge maide" and "oge maiden".

So if anyone has problems finding out the answer to the question I've extended the deadline to 14.00 (GMT) 1st Dec 2003 - and I've slapped myself on the wrist for not checking this out beforehand :)

The rules for the competition entries remain the same as detailed in last weeks EIS update email.

EIS Website Update - Postcards & Flyers Scans

Throughout the years, a wide range of promotional flyers and postcards have been produced by Mute, Intercord and Maverick (amongst others) to promote new Erasure releases in their respective territories.

A selection of these have been scanned and can be viewed at:

EIS Forum

In a shameless plug for the new EIS forum (which has been doing really well - thank you!!) I've started a new topic asking what features / content would you like to see introduced to the EIS website over the next few months.

The shopping area and the discography sections are the features of the site that are due to be revamped next - what else would you like to see?

Post your suggestion on the EIS forum at:

The topic is within the 'Erasure Discussion' area.

Please remember though that there is only me who does everything at the EIS - so not every good idea can be implemented at once!

Until next week!

Competition Time!

I have 3 signed copies of "Hits! The Very Best Of Erasure" CD (CDMUTEL10) and 3 signed copies of "Hits! The Videos" - PAL version (DVDMUTEL10) to give away in this weeks competition!

(The CD's and DVD's have all been signed by Andy and Vince I should hasten to add!)

As I'm in a particularly generous mood today I won't set a question - all you have to do is to send your name, postal address and say if you like the DVD or CD, to the following address:

Entries will close at 2pm (GMT) next Friday (14th November) and 6 random names will be drawn out of the hat by Eric (the latest name for my imaginary assistant). Each winner will receive one DVD or CD (depending of the preference stated in their entry)

Multiple entries will all be deleted and the competition is only open to EIS members (i.e. those who directly receive these email updates)

Important - Email Address Change

From next week the EIS updates (and emails from myself) will be coming from a new email address.

At the moment the email 'from address' is:

this will be changing to:

which I feel makes more sense :)

I'm informing you now so that you can make changes to your email / spam filtering software so that you don't miss any EIS updates.

I'll will still receive emails from the old address for a while yet - but will no longer send from it.

The other email addresses: (for sending in gallery pictures) (for questions to ask Andy or Vince) (for competition entries) (old EIS email address)

remain unaffected at the moment.

Oh L'Amour slipcases

Just a quick note to say that all the remaining Oh L'Amour slipcases have been sent out today and there are no more left.

I sent emails to people yesterday and today to those who have been sent a slipcase - there were only enough slipcases to send to approx 8% of those who wanted one (outside the UK). The names chosen were selected by random from the database.

Vote! Vote! Vote!

TOTP2's website are having a viewer's vote (as they do every week), and whichever band/artist wins is shown on TOTP2. This week's vote is a nautical theme and Ship Of Fools is one of the choices!. If Erasure win, it'll be shown on the 2nd of December edition of TOTP2. Here's the address to vote: It'd be great if Erasure could be on this show again (I don't think they've been on since the Erasure special). It'll just be a recording of an old Top Of The Pops appearance, but that's still pretty good!. They were 3rd the last time I checked, so they need a few more votes to get them into the lead. We can do it, so please vote vote vote!! (well, actually, you can only vote once, so just 'vote!' ;-)

(An update on this - unfortunately, they started a new poll the day after I noticed this one and Erasure didn't win - OMD did. Oh well, hopefully we'll win the next one!).

Erasure In The Press

This months (October) Record Collector also features a news story regarding Hits!

Radio Requests

Of course we all know how fab Andy and Vince are - but I think more people deserve (oh yes deserve!) to know :)

One way is to contact your local radio station and request (politely!) that they play the new Oh L'Amour single.

Obviously the more exposure that the single can achieve before its release the better chance of another success this year - and what a year it's been so far!

Of course another way is to try and work the phrase "Oh L'Amour is out on the 13th October" as frequently and rapidly as possible into general conversations with people - but you may then get the sort of looks that I do when doing this...

Pre-order Problems

If anyone has had problems pre-ordering the forthcoming Oh L'Amour single (released 13th October) or the Hits! album / DVD (released 20th October) then could you email me asap with the store name, location and what you were trying to order so that I can pass any issues on and get them resolved.

Many thanks!

Until Friday...

Oh L'Amour & Hits!

Just a reminder that the forthcoming single Oh L'Amour can now be pre-ordered, prior to its release in the UK on 13th October.

If at all possible, it is strongly recommended that the single is pre-ordered, rather than just bought in the shops once it is released.

This makes it clear to shops and distributors alike that there is a real demand for the single and helps to raise its profile.

Ensuring that the shops order sufficient copies of the single in the first week is essential, since there is only a one week window in which the single is to be made available to the shops.

Whilst in the shops - don't forget to enquire about the forthcoming Hits! album and DVD which are out on the 20th October. These are exciting releases and we should make sure the shops know it!

Oh L'Amour - 'Carsten Kroeyer' mix

I can picture it now...

Oh wait - I think I've done that :)

A sample of the latest rather splendid mix (the 'Carsten Kroeyer' mix) from the forthcoming Oh L'Amour single is now online and is available in both Real Media and Windows Media formats via the EIS front page:

Oh L'Amour UK release details

As with the two highly successful single releases earlier this year, the Oh L'Amour single will be made available * to the shops * for one week only.

By concentrating the UK sales as much as possible within the week of release it will enable the single sales to have as maximum an impact as possible on the UK charts.

Obviously if shops don't sell all their stock within the first week then the single will still be available to buy after the first week.

It is realised that some people may take exception to this - however the success of the previous single releases this year which resulted (amongst other things) in the Top Of The Pops 2 special, the numerous TV appearances etc. demonstrate what can happen after a high chart placement.

For those who intend to purchase Oh L'Amour online via large online retailers such as Amazon UK - well these orders will count towards the UK charts * but only if the order is sent to a UK address *.

If you're pre-ordering the single in shops then details of the catalogue and EAN numbers are provided further down this e-mail.

Hits! / Oh L'Amour latest details

Available on the EIS front page is the new artwork for Hits! - The Very Best of Erasure and for the Oh'Amour single. In addition the track listings for 'Hits! - The Very best Of Erasure' has been refreshed - details within the news section.

New Erasure album - Country and Western?!

This article was published on phone company 'Onetel's site and also a couple of days ago. Thanks to Rod K who discovered it. (Article address

Electro popsters Erasure have revealed that they are to release a country and western album next year.

The move will no doubt surprise many of their fans who were expecting them to follow up their upcoming Best of with a brand new electro album.

But don't worry, it's as much of a departure as you might think, as the lovely Andy Bell told us:

"We've just finished recording it. It's really lovely. I always wanted to do a country and western album. Vince has arranged it for me, and it's old Erasure ballads from all our previous albums that we wanted to release as singles but didn't. Twelve songs, all done with slide guitars and violins. I re-did all the vocals and was shocked because my voice was so deep and smoky."

Andy does admit that he's worried that fans may be a bit peeved by the lack of new material on offer.

"To be honest, we're in a quandary at the moment, 'cos what with the hits and all we're wary about releasing old stuff 'cos people will think we've dried up. But Vince and I have written five new songs so we're not finished yet!"

And good news too. Hits! The Very Best Of Erasure is released on October 13.

Greg EIS has posted the following on ISayISayISay regarding this news:-

"Whilst in New York during August, Andy and Vince recorded an acoustic album. Whilst featuring other musicians, it is in no way a Country and Western album!! (Interesting though that may have been!)". He also says there are no plans to release it at the moment and there are no more details at this time.

Hits! - The Artwork

As mentioned in last Friday's update, the artwork for "Hit's - The Very Best Of Erasure" is now available for viewing on the EIS homepage - and it's certainly provoked a wide range of opinions!

Many people have asked who did the artwork - well it was by 'Me Company' who also produced the artwork for "Pop! - The First Twenty Hits!".

(This is funny isn't it?. Some fans who didn't like the artwork wished that Me Company would be used to design the covers again. Turns out they have! Lol! - Jackie).

New 'Oh L'Amour ' Sound Clip Online

I can picture it now...

(cue Twilight Zone music)

Doo do do do, Doo do do do...

Its Saturday night and I find myself standing at the bar in the club, my usual weird coloured cocktail in hand.

Suddenly something makes me look up - there's a perceptual change of mood in the immediate crowd around me. They've ceased their chatter and they appear to be listening to something - it takes me a moment to release that they're actually listening to the music on the dance floor.

There certainly seems something familiar about what's being played now... And that voice singing... Why it's---

The next five minutes are a blur as I find myself dancing manically with arms in air and whistle in mouth without a care in the world...

Yes I've entered the "Oh L'Amour LMC Extended Remix" zone....

Real Media and Windows Media clips can be found exclusively on the EIS front page at:

Doo do do do, Doo do do do...

'Hits! - The Very Best of Erasure' Cover Artwork

Also on the EIS front page is the exclusive unveiling of the striking artwork for the 'Hits! - The Very Best of Erasure' CD. As you can see it explains the title of this weeks e-mail bulletin!

'Hits! - The Very Best Of Erasure' - Re-mastered

I've had a number e-mails inquiring if the tracks on the forthcoming 'Hits! - The Very Best of Erasure' CD have been re-mastered. Well I can confirm that yes they have.Where applicable the previously re-mastered tracks from the EBX box-sets have been used and the subsequent tracks have been re-mastered to match the quality of these.

Erasurette site updates

Just thought I'd mention a few changes to my site. As you might have noticed, I've changed the news archive section to a general archive where I've included old polls and tour dates. I've also had to change the discussion forum back to the one I had before, though all the original messages are still there. I've added a new mp3 to the audio section too, the second part of the Southern FM interview. That's it! - Jackie.

Oh L'Amour - Further Details

As mentioned previously the single will be released on 2 CDs and a DVD - the complete track listing is as follows:

- Oh L'Amour (August Mix)
- Love Me All Night Long
- Nothing Lasts Forever

- Oh L'Amour (LMC Extended Remix)
- Oh L'Amour (Shanghai Remix)
- Oh L'Amour (Kenny Hayes Remix)

- Oh L'Amour (Carsten Kroeyer Mix)
- Oh L'Amour (Dark Brothers and Andy Bell Mix)
- Victim Of Love - Video (Exclusive live footage of performance from 'The Other Tour')

What is particularity exciting about this release is that the opportunity has been taken to present three distinct radio mixes of the song for each of the a-sides of Oh L'Amour.

So whilst the 'August Mix' (by Daniel Miller and Sie Medway-Smith) features an updated yet faithful interpretation of the classic song, the 'LMC Extended Remix' for example, is something quite different...

Exclusive sound clip!

As is becoming a Friday tradition there is another exclusive sound-clip for you to enjoy!

This time it's a sample "Oh L'Amour (August Mix)" - available in Real Audio & Windows Media formats. The links are on the front page of the EIS site at:
